This family is precious to me. They are not only some of my very best friends in the world, but I have also been photographing them now for 10 years! How crazy is that!? It's truly priceless to me to have the privilege to photograph the stories, growth and journey through the years. Currently, they have adopted not one but 2 babies and now have completed their family.
Can I just be honest....I cried during her slideshow here at the studio thinking about all of this. I did.
Addison was 3 and Jackson was just a baby when our relationship started. Watching those two grow up and getting to watch these two new precious angels join the ranks of the family has been almost more than I can handle! Sweetness. Grateful that I get to watch their love grow through my lens. Good stuff.
I love the carefree spirit little girls have. And I love these particular little girls...and their mommy and daddy. :) So thankful for precious friends and funny kids.
The Harvey's have been gracious enough to allow me to photograph their family ::
And here they are today...they're growing like little weeds!
I love the ins and outs of everyday life and watching families experience it. Seeing the different nuances in family life by getting to photograph them at home fills up my cup! Wrestling on the bed, swinging on the front porch, temper tantrum at the front door, all.of.it. All of it!
I want more, more, more of this!!!
Can I tell you my absolute favorite part about meeting this family? During our planning session before the shoot, I asked her about her family life and when she started talking about her husband, she lit up like sunshine! She said, "he's my person" referring to him. Swoony maroony!
Love is so much fun to watch.
Let's face it. Meltdowns are usually not much fun. Drool does make a mess. Most Dads I've met love to throw their sons up in the air because it's how they can get them to belly laugh and that usually doesn't sit well with moms. Toddlers need extra attention and actually...they typically demand it. And it's hard to be enough for everyone in the family at the same time when the baby is crying, the toddler is tantrum-ing and both parents are just ready for a break.
Life with babies and toddlers are stressful, tiring and full of moments when we think we may not make it to tomorrow. Being on the other side of that stage in life, I can tell you this...don't wish it away. Don't miss all the beauty in the chaos. It's a little difficult to manage some days, sure. But these days are rich. Enjoy the reality of where you are with your kids and family and smile.
A wise friend once told me, "I just keep reminding myself, I'm gonna miss this". Having that perspective in the midst of the chaos creates joy and gratitude for the moment. We can all use a healthy dose of that!
