Her spirit comes through her eyes and smile, doesn't it? She's absolutely awesome. I sooo love working with seniors who are fun, happy and ambitious. She fits the bill perfectly.

Every time I'm around this girl and her mom, it has been like visiting with old friends. Isn't it cool how we connect with some people instantly and others it takes much, much, much more time? ;) Sometimes I wonder if I think too much?

.....and told me she hated that "rustic" look. :P

Not really...hate was my word, not hers. BUT she did say she didn't want Rustic...at all.
I was dying! Perfect, perfect, perfect location...old cars, campers (which I snuck in a few shots just for me), busses, barns, creek...just perfect. I digress.

What she *did* want is what we gave her. Sweet, lovey, precious, innocent images of her punkins. They were toooo fun! You can see for yourself here.

This session took place just days before the oldest son went off to school. I love that in most of these images, his mom is looking at him so sweet! Can't think about my kids moving away anywhere!!! I cry just at the thoughts of it.

As I look through these images, I get a strong sense of peace and relaxation.
It's a feeling that makes my shoulders subconsciously rest and takes my mind to a place far away...a Saturday in the mountains with no agenda, perhaps.

I love getting to know my clients before our session. I had the opportunity to get to know this girl before she knew me (well, before she knew I was a photographer). My son and her little brother were on the same baseball team together and so we would get to chat at their games. Near the end of the season, connections were made and the family allowed me to document her senior portraits.

Her sweet spirit inspires me. Her dreams, ambition and love for life is exhilarating. Her look is "beauty" in it's purest form. Overused or not....she's just beautiful.

I love the simplicity of this session. It feels good to me.

The family is gorgeous and just as sweet as they are beautiful. When she came in to see the images, I couldn't contain myself. I cried for her! Ridiculous, I know. Just couldn't help it.
Her boys are growing up, graduating, moving out...they're just in a new phase of life and it made me sad to think that one day in the not so distant future, Kevin and I will have to go through that, too. Oh Lord, I'm gonna start crying again!

Isn't it funny how we spend our whole lives as parents preparing our kids for "this" moment and when it comes, we don't want to let go. Seems like it should be easier knowing the goal has been achieved. Not to say that parenting is over at 18/college by any means, but just leaving the nest, ya know? Heck...I'm saying *we* don't want to let go...I'm just flashing forward. I know I won't want to let go. All of my sentences are running together, I'm rambling. Sorry. Sigh....

Let's just say I was totally WOWed by the amount of work this senior put in to our session.
She went garage sale-ing, antiquing at g'mas house, shopping at Anthropologie THEN loaded up a car full of props and furniture to use for our shoot. It was fantastically fantastic.
I felt like a kid in a candy store. So much fun pulling all of things together to create a stylish, yet significant senior session!!!

I could write for hours about my sweet friend. To only say she's "simply amazing" doesn't do her justice, but she knows exactly how I feel about her...that's the important thing for me. : )

I'd love to tell you a precious story about how romantic this session was...something to the tune of "we laughed and played and the children enjoyed it as much as the adults and blah blah blah" but that would be a total lie. Reality was it was sweltering hot. We were all sweaty (....as in the kids were even sweaty, heck, the dog was hot!). Totally not good conditions for a large group family portrait but it was just the challenge I'm always looking for.

I feel so, so honored that they allowed me to document such a time as this in their lives.
Beautiful people. All of them. Beautiful, just beautiful.

The idea came in from Erin ....we loved the way she pitched it, so we thought we'd share it with you .....

"Mom in 50's style type dress and apron rolling her eyes with a martini in hand - and four kids around kitchen floor - one is covered in flour, one is a chocolate mess, one with a huge spill of milk on the ground with a milk mustache and one crying and running...

That is how i am feeling today - nice, huh???"

We LOVED the concept and the execution was more fun than I dreamed it would be. She even bought real Bon Bons! Too fun! Congratulations on being the Big Winner of our contest, Erin! Your book is in the works!

Back in March, we announced our first contest ever.
The winners, we thought, had some incredible ideas! With tons of entries, this is one of our three runners up. Billie Wheeler. Shoot inspired by Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland.

Billie is like...umm.....a "WOOOOOAHHH" kind of creative gal! Wish she would let me hire her!!! College first, I suppose. ;)

The shoot was extremely challenging for me, the selecting and processing of the images was equally as hard as the shoot. Overall, I was stretched creatively and so was my staff. Great, great idea Billie! Thanks for letting us play with your imagination!

How stinkin' adorable are these girls!!!

Their outfits aren't too shabby either. LOVE THEM!
It's so funny what clothes can do for a session. I feel like it just brings everything home.

We photographed this session at their lake home.....I totally dig the feel of it. Very summer-ish. ;) Fantastically fabulous family to work with.

I don't know what movie this feels like it comes from...maybe I've never seen it. This image though....this image makes my imagination run wild! I love it!!! When I see an image that makes me ask a question, it's a keeper. This one makes me ask, wonder and use my imagination. Score. vand_100701_2946e.jpg

Beautiful family, gorgeous kids....totally planned on this session being a dead ringer.

I thought we would play, have fun, run, be silly and enjoy the sunshine. Well, the boys had a different idea....we'll just say it wasn't much of anything I thought it would be. The parents were awesome about it, but I just knew they had to be thinking we totally wasted our time. They seemed semi-encouraged when we left, but no really big expectations.

I always want a really, really, really fun photo shoot experience, but when it doesn't happen, I LOVE when this (below) does!

I follow this couple on Twitter. I must say, I do wish more of my families would use this tool about 2 months before coming to me. It so helps to be able to peek into relationships before I actually get to photograph. Neat!

This family is super-d-duper-terrifically fun and inspiring to be around. They not only know how to laugh and have a great time, they also have incredibly grounded morals and great big hearts for each other. Watching that through the camera makes for some seriously good stuff! It's fun to be around, too!

When clients feel more like family than business acquaintances, it's a good time all around. This family def fits that bill.  Watch this and see for yourself, you'll want to know them, too! : )

We've been everywhere with this family, Erwin, Cleveland, Nashville, Johnson City.....What a blessing to photograph their children since both of their births. Incredible, incredible people with great big hearts and total "HOOTS" to hang out with! I love their bigger than life lives and love to watch them go crazy loving on their kids.

Every session we've ever had has been completely "put together" and planned to the T...this one wasn't. I've been thrilled with our previous sessions, but this one may just take the cake! Honest, it could be my favorite one I've shot for them. Time forced us into just letting our hair down and rolling with the punches and can I just tell you???? That...my friend....THAT is when the magic happens. Strange but true.

Enjoy a peek into family life for the Cantrells.

Every year, I have the distinct pleasure of photographing this beautiful little princess. And every year I leave her party thinking about what an absolute honor it is that this family puts their trust in me to document these milestones for their daughter. Grateful.

Okay, so the birthday party, the most amazing princess party I've attended to date.
Everyone dressed up in their "fanciness" and made magic fairy wands, escaped the wrath of the horrible dragon, enjoyed a lovely lunch and some cake and waited patiently, very patiently  whilst their castle was being inflated. A fun time to be had by all.
