If you've ever had a planning session with me, you'll know that I typically don't recommend everyone to wear white shirts for a session. Honestly, I guess the thoughts of it feels so uniform-ish.....and let's not dismiss the idea that I've photographed about 2 million families wearing all white, so maybe I'm just jaded from it in that regard.
At any rate, this family showed up in all white...all different styles of white, but all white. Automatically, I think "classic" and the word "classic" (or my interpretation of it anyway) doesn't invigorate me to create incredible images. HOWEVER, as we moved through the session and then started to process it, I've found that I have fallen in love with the end result.
The way it feels is so refreshing to me. It's so simple, so clean and relational. The combination of the clothing and the location can really intensify what the viewer sees and I think on this day...for this family...we had it all. The most important thing about all of this is that this is who they are. When I look at this session, I'm not thinking about anything but the relationships happening in the images. That's a great thing.

Her looks KILL! The close up black and white below makes me think it's only missing an autograph like, "Much Love, XO", fancy signature and maybe a big sloppy heart. Doesn't she look like a soap opera star? I love her eyes and those lips that Hollywood chics pay the big bucks for. She would fit perfectly in Hollywood, sans the attitude and artificial-ness. She's naturally beautiful. Naturally simple and very few frills. She's real. She's smart. She's talented. She's funny. She's simply beautiful in every way.

This mom brought her little buddy to our planning session. I walked down the stairs and when he saw me for the first time (like, ever) he ran and hugged me so big! I felt loved. It was good.
:) What a sweet boy.
So I get to their house thinking he's going to be quiet and sweet and cuddly...um. No. This little fella is everywhere in his domain! Can I tell you? The boy is ruthless on machinery! He has some super cool little things to drive around the driveway and the yard with and he will flat - out - "get it"...as in pedal to the metal BABY! Loved hanging at his house, watching him play with his "rides", his toy trains, jumping on his bed, playing in the back yard and best of all, watching how he is loved so much by his parents. Love is so fun to watch. ;)
My favorite thing about this session is that it has kind of an everyday feel to it. Just an ordinary day. Ordinary days when you're 4yo are incredibly cool to look at when you're 24yo. :)

When someone looks at an image and says, "it's not a portrait, it's a moment...it's about emotion..." I just want to jump up and down and scream YES! YES! That's IT! THAT'S what it's about! Well, for me it is anyway. I'm just happy that there are people that get it, appreciate it and want it as bad as I do and even better...will treasure it forever and ever and ever. [[[ gush ]]]
Speaking of a moment...it's a senior moment. It's a family moment. It's a couple that's been married for many years having a moment together. It's a great little moment in their journey in life. So blessed that they trusted me to bottle it up for them through this session.
