I could go on and on (and I do most times) about how much I love childhood and real moments. Today won't be much different.
A newborn comes into a family where there's just been one happy little punkin floating around the house for several years and bam! There's a WHAT coming to live with us? A baby??? What's a baby? I'm going to be a big brother? Oh. Okay....whatever that means.
Fast forward, the baby comes. I've seen alot of things transpire at this point...jealousy, resentment, tenderness and affection....lots of different things. For this family, it honestly felt so natural. It felt like just another day. Big brother didn't show any huge swings in behavior. He loved and cared for his new baby brother, but he still played and did his thing, too. His whole little self wasn't completely wrapped up in the newness of the change in their home. I loved watching that.
Sure personalities go a long way but what great parents they are to have prepared their home to roll with the punches. Very inspiring. Very. Loved every second of seeing it all play out.

This is the first Life, Actually piece we've done with a child under 1. ( The prime age group for this is 1-5yrs. )
How incredibly precious that for her first professional pictures to look back on when she's 20something, she will be able to see how her first words sounded and how much she was loved by her granddad and her "bb". I can't tell you how special it is for us to be able to give such an invaluable memory through the combination of digital images and video. It's powerful...or it WILL be powerful, I should say. Hope you enjoy the show!

You may remember their maternity session?
Amanda (our associate photographer) and I trekked up the road to Kentucky to journal the the welcoming of Sebastian a few weeks ago.
We were so excited that the grandparents travelled in country to also welcome this precious little fella.
If you are a mom, you'll be able to relate with this all too well...the first few weeks at home can be trying. You haven't quite found your rhythm yet.
baby sleeps
baby poops
baby eats
baby cries
repeat.
I wish it were possible to always schedule during the "baby sleeps" portion of that cycle, but that's just not reality as early in life as we like to shoot. SO! This session is chocked full of the reality of welcoming a newborn into the family.
There is nothing I love more (photographically speaking) than images that are a true depiction of a moment in a family's journey. This says *that* to me.

There were so many incredible images from this session it was hard to select what to showcase here. The whole session from start to finish was one fun expression after the other. Looking through his images from the shoot, I laughed and laughed and laughed.....umm...out loud. It was quite disruptive to my staff. Such a funny boy! I enjoyed the giggles.

5 children is no easy task. Heck, I freak out sometimes with just 2! These children love each other so much, they play, they climb trees, they dote on their new little brother, they are all drop dead gorgeous and they are...

I love getting to "see" the reality of family life.
The images below are all of my very, very favorites from the session. I LOVE the 2nd image, the one of the mom and dad. Can you just "feel" their love? OOOOH! So inspiring and so amazing. Love the rest for different reasons...each individual child's picture is how I saw them and their spirits.
Getting to watch kids grow up and having the honor of documenting their childhood so they can relive "days past" has got to be the coolest job on the planet.

All these pictures are great! But I especially LOVE the last one. I come from a family with 5 kids......4 girls and the baby boy. And this picture completely reminds me of my childhood. The sibling fights, the 'poor' only boy, and the awesome friendships I now have as an adult with my siblings. I just wish my parents would have done a better job documenting our childhood. Great Pictures!!
